Note: While most of the info in this post should remain OOC, feel free to have telepaths (I'm looking at you, Schuldig) learn any information that is related to something Mio has said IC.
People in the Dark Moon universe
Mio's father - An extremely successful businessman, owns Hongo Enterprises and various other corporations. Also has a large measure of political influence. Although he was a good (if distant) father to Mio and her sister when they were young, he is utterly ruthless in business and has even gone so far as to murder his younger brother & his family (with the exception of Mizuki, who survived the car "accident") in order to gain control of their shares of the company. Mio has known about this for quite some time, and hates and despises her father because of this. Also, because her father is the one of the only men she has ever had significant contact with, Mio now believes that all men are greedy, manipulative, murderous, backstabbing snakes like her father. It doesn't help that all of her father's business associates (whom Mio has met at parties and various social gatherings she has been forced to go to by her parents) tend to be similar to her father in that regard, although not quite as bad.
Mio's mother - What can I say about this woman? She's fucking psycho. She's an emotionally abusive bitch who thinks Misao (Mio's older sister) can do no wrong and that nothing Mio can do will ever live up to the goodness of Misao. And she doesn't hesitate to tell Mio this, at great length. Her ambition in life is raise Mio up to become a brainless trophy wife to marry off in order to build business connections with other prominent business families. Mio absolutely loathes her mother, and keeps her hair cut short to spite her mother (because it exposes her scar).
Misao - Mio's older sister. College-age. Beautiful and smart, but unfortunately has inherited the worst personality traits from both her parents. When she was younger, she shoved Mio down a hillside into a pile of glass because she envied Mio's violin talent (the origin of Mio's scar). Is engaged to Katsuki, the music teacher at Mio's high school.
Mizuki - Mio's cousin. ~1 year younger than Mio. Was taken in by Mio's parents after a car "accident" killed the rest of her family. In spite of being treated as little more than a servant by Mio's family, she remains upbeat and cheerful about everything. Mio dislikes her and bullies her; two reasons are that she is the one person in the household that Mio actually has power over, and because Mio hates and envies Mizuki for her ability to remain happy despite her hard circumstances (whereas Mio has become bitter and cynical in circumstances in her opinion, are much less harsh). Secretly has a crush on Katsuki.
Katsuki - Misao's fiance, and the music teacher at Mio's (and Mizuki's) high school. Secretly, he is the son of the man who was blackmailed into arranging the deaths of Mizuki's family. Afterwards, Mio's father killed Katsuki's family in order to cover up the deaths. Katsuki has been working all this time to bring revenge on the Hongo family for what Mio's father did to his family. He studied music and became a music teacher in order to woo Misao (who loves music), in an effort to get closer to the Hongo family before he unleashes his revenge. Mio does not know him very well, but is a little bit suspicious because her empathy subconsciously tells her that he is not all that he seems.
Powers
Empathy - Mio is an latent projective empath. Right now she has no knowledge of or training in her powers, so she has a tendency to project her feelings. Because of her personality, negative emotions such as as anger and hate tend to get projected especially strongly. Power level is currently unknown, but it has been shown that even untrained, Mio can affect the emotional atmosphere enough for normals to notice. Mio is also naturally resistant to mood-altering effects.
Grudge spirits - Small imp-like spirits (see icon) that manifest from Mio's aura when Mio is especially angry or upset. They are invisible (except to those who can see energy auras), but are relatively easy to detect (to those who know the signs) because the temperature drops several degrees when they manifest (plus Mio's hair usually does the invisible wind thing). They will attack the target of Mio's hatred, causing a temporary paralysis effect (or kanashibari, in Japanese). They also serve as a form of amplification for any emotions that Mio is projecting. They will tend to dissipate unless Mio is maintaining a focused hatred on a particular person/people. Weak towards blinding smiles from pretty bishounen and magical/holy objects. (SPOILER: Right now they are just aura projections but with knowledge and repeated use of the effect, the grudge spirits may eventually gain some measure of sentience. o.o;;)
Other
Mio's opinions on murder - Mio has no problems with murder. However, her twisted sense of honor requires that it be done for a 'good' reason, such as revenge. Mio detests murders committed soley for personal gain, such as the murders her father committed. (Note: Mio does not consider paid assassins to be killing for personal gain.) Mio also believes murder should be personal, and strongly dislikes the indirect methods her father used. Hired assassins are okay though, as long as they reveal who hired them to the target before they kill them. However, hiring an assassin should be because you don't have the power to go after the target yourself, not because you don't want to get your hands dirty.
(Sorry that made so little sense. Mio's feelings on the subject are kinda complicated.)
Mio's opinions on money - Oddly enough (?), Mio is scrupulously honest about financial matters, perhaps as a way of distancing herself from her father and his crooked business practices. It may also be that Mio is so used to her family having more money than they know what to do with that it doesn't seem worth the effort to lie and steal in order to get yet more money. It is unknown how living in the Nexus with only the clothes on her back and no access to her family's money will affect that view.
More to come, stuff will be added in as I feel like it.
